Friends of the Pier

Performed in partnership with Good Capital Group, Friends of the Pier, is a non-profit initiative composed of residents and local business leaders, focused on providing realistic solutions towards addressing the public requirement to structurally refurbish one of Southern California's iconic public pier locations. Given the significant estimated structural costs discussed through public study, Friend of the Pier aims to amortize the improvement requirements by incorporating the base structure into public facing amenities through an innovative architectural solution. The proposal introduces three long concrete structures extending from the refurbished pier framework, headed by a public pool complex. These new spaces are conceived as physical extensions of the marine pier infrastructure, transforming necessary structural work into usable civic architecture. By combining refurbishment with revenue-generating public amenities, the project creates a model that can attract private capital, reduce reliance on taxpayer funding, and deliver lasting public value.
